Devastator Help

Post by DarthMadden78 »

Recently I purchased an original G1 Devastator gift set off eBay. Pics all looked good. On closer inspection at the house the sticker sheet seemed different from other Original G1 transformers I have. The biggest issue is that the back of the sheets say trademark paper on them. The other thing I noticed is that the styrofoam insert looks different from my other original G1 Devastator. It doesn’t seem to fit the figures as well. The seller said it’s an overseas one and that’s why there are differences. I’m skeptical of this as every overseas items I’ve seen are multi language packages. This one is straight up English. Has anyone ever seen these differences on original Transformers? I don’t want to doubt the seller, but something seems off. Thoughts? Thanks!

Does the packaging have the wear and discoloration you'd expect even a well kept original to have?

Would suggest posting pics over at https://m.facebook.com/groups/5583202101696788/ where there are people with a lot of experience of sifting out repro packaging and parts.

Yes. The box itself has typical edge wear and a small rip where the tape was removed. I feel good about the box. The styrofoam looks similar in cut to Chinese KOs I’ve looked at online. It’s the trademark paper logo on the sticker sheets that is really bugging me. I think this may be an original box and figures with some repo things thrown in.

Wouldn't be uncommon, and people don't necessarily have the history of things. Or have forgotten they customised/improvised things themselves in one or two cases with people I've dealt with.

IIRC there are late legitimate Asia releases of some early figures, but not sure if Devvy was included. Folks in the more specialised FB groups are probably your best bet.

The seller isn't Wheeljackslab is it?

Thanks for the info. No it wasn’t wheeljackslab. I think I’ve bought from him before. Don’t recall any issues. This was from Thingsofyesteryear. Easy to deal with and they accept returns.
