^Nice to see some love for Origins :) I had a few MOTU figures back when I was young, He-Man, Man-At-Arms, Mek-A-Neck, Kobra Khan, Beast Man, Man-E-Faces, plus Wind Raider and a second hand Castle Greyskull (the proper spelling :P ) that had none of the accessories. I loved them all and played with them as much, if not moreso than the Transformers I had.

Speaking of Origins, I did get some more. How exciting!

Stratos is one I've never been mad on, his strange monkey face is odd on an avian fella. I do like the Icarus vibes he has. Smyths only had the 'no clothes' variant, which wasn't for me, so I threw some money Amazon's way to help Jeff's space program and for the regular version. For a figure I'm a bit lukewarm on, why did I buy him? Well, an illustration from an old Ladybird book is stuck in my head and that was all the reason I needed.

Man-E-Faces. I have the old UK Box set of the old cartoon and I was a bit disappointed that this cool looking fighty fella is, erm, an actor and his face swapping gimmick was just an aide to his repertoire. Seems a bit of waste of such a cool looking design. Whatever, I loved this when I had the original and this is just as much fun, if not moreso because HE CAN TURN HIS WHOLE HEAD AS WELL. Mind blown. Do wonder if this guy was an influence on Animated Blitzwing.

Teela is one I never owned but always wanted. I loved that she wasn't just 'the girl one' but a capable warrior and a Captain to boot. The snake armour the toy has is wicked and I love the staff, which I forgot had a name - Kaa! (I really need to track down those Ladybird books, I think) She also has a shield and she looks bloody ace.

Tri-Klops can look in all directions! I remember doing a colouring in on a photocopy of a Tri-Klops picture during a rainy day playtime (this was last week) and thought he looked pretty awesome. He is, all grimacing face and big green sword. The eyes are great - I love the angry red one and the non-committal blue one.

Trap-Jaw is one of the coolest early designs. The interchangeable weapon arm is great and I like his silly crunchy jaw. Colours on this lad are brilliant, all lurid pinky-red, green and blue. I like his roboty looking legs and the sculpting on the wrist of his fleshy arm.

LOP Mer-Man I made a man at Smyths get this lad down off the top shelf (what is this, porn?) at Smyths from his special ladders. Didn't occur to me after, as I'm not an expert in He-Man, that is based on the prototype used when MOTU was going to be called Lords Of Power (glad they changed that). This is just how Mer-Man looks to me now, having owned the 200X version for some years.

Faker. What is it about evil versions of heroic characters that makes them so appealing? In his bright baby blue and neon orange, Faker isn't fooling anyone that he's He-Man (love that the mini-comic makes him have some sort of camouflage gimmick), but damn if he doesn't look awesome. Love the silly sticker / decal giving him some robot bits on his chest.

Castle Greyskull - I did chuckle that this has actually been anglicised on the box. I never had a complete one and this just looked great, especially as it's surprisingly reasonable for the price and comes with a figure. I enjoyed putting it all together and sticking the silly stickers on. The lift and trap door features are great fun "You are The Weakest Link. Goodbye!". I like the weapons rack and the spinny thing for practising your fighting with. The jawbridge has a nice feature too - you unlock it by poking the Power Sword into a slot in the front. The Sorceress is pretty awesome, coming in some mini-comic variant outfit I know nothing about. The plain white outfit isn't as boring as it seems, the translucent wings are fancy and she has that wavy thing for doing the magic. She's cool and now I don't have to bother picking her up separately, which feels like winning. I do like it when playsets actually come with a figure to interact with.

I also bought the Land Shark. Wasn't going to bother with the vehicles (although I could go for a Roton), but this was reduced on Amazon and thought it'd be fun to shove Trap Jaw in. It's still in the box, but looks fun!

I've actually had more fun playing with these than most of the Transformers I've bought this year. They're bright, colourful figures with memorable designs and fun play features, with some decent articulation. More importantly, they are designed to be played with, rather than stuck on a shelf to be viewed in silent awe. Brilliant stuff.

Yeah, never had any of the three ladies as a kid either. Sorceress was objectively rubbish but getting Blade instead of her or Randor was a bad decision. I think I'd have still cleared them out regardless, though. MOTU and Thundercats etc didn't have the depth that TFs pulled off, and it was obvious even at a young age that the story was being made up as they went along. The stuff reads better with rose tinted glasses now.

Stinkor and Webstor turned up over the last couple of days. Despite a lot of negative comments online Stinkor does actually have a definable odour, but you have to be deliberately close to notice it. If anyone else is getting Webstor, the current clack is it's best to add some additional knots to avoid the string pulling through the backpack if the default knots come loose.

I ordered various figures from Comics & Cocktails in Wolves, and they've been okay so far if slow to get things in stock, but with the news waves 1-6 are now out of production with Mattel (at least on US cards) I'm a bit concerned that the Stinkor and Webstors I ordered months ago might not show. And it's teensy bit irritating that wave 7 (preordered 3 out of 4 of) has been and gone in Smyths but not come in with them either, although the cards are marked "new for 22". I've got plans to pad a second Stinkor with patchouli-infused cotton wool and use the Webstors for custom fodder (eg Leo Skeletor).

If you give Faker a set of He-Man armour and an axe, and photograph him in black and white, he looks remarkably convincing as a doppelganger. Which raises interesting questions about colour-blindness on Eternia.

I think Origins display nicely, and the customisation options do add a lot of interest, but they're also far more fun as toys than most 6" figure lines. Might have said this already but it's a shame the upcoming Flying Fists and Terror Claws variant He-Man/Skelly will have their armour moulded on so you can't add the waist twist action feature to their "normal" versions.

I picked up MotU Origins Skeletor on clearance over Thanksgiving. A lot of details remind me of the figure I had as a kid, like the asymmetrical hand positions. The pull-back-and-punch waist has been replaced with a traditional waist joint, and I'm pretty sure there's more articulation now. But aesthetically, he matches the original.

By which I mean, he looks pretty silly, and I love it. I have a few other Skeletors which try to invoke some kind of gravitas. Even the Happy Meal toy from 15 years ago tries to look ominous. This guy, like the original, embraces the silliness of a muscleman with a skull head.

The "face" sculpt is great, especially when the head is tilted up. He has the open mouth and sculpted brow of a man saying, "What the sh*t is this?" as he sees something that will scuttle his plans. He's about to get his butt kicked. Again. He's no longer afraid of the beating, just irritated.

Yeah, I really like the cackling head. It's a good default and the retro one / Battle Armour ones look a bit cheesy... the smiling one went to a NA Skeletor custom and the grimacing one went on Revelation Skelly.

The new style He-Man head isn't bad either, it just suits Adam better (and the 'battle cry' variant from the Battle Armour pack goes quite nicely with the Revelation figure, as does the normal Origins armour -- the skinny Revelation armour meanwhile looks better to complete a 200x figure that's missing accessories).

The modern vintage style He-Man head isn't quite the same as the 80s original, which had a remarkable amount of definition for rubber, but it's a heck of a lot better sculpted than the Super7 "vintage" design modelled after the animation.

This is more of a "Remembering that our old toys actually exist!" non-TF edition...

Scare Glow was one of my favourite figures as a kid. Later updates didn't sit right because designers always wanted to redo the skull face. Origins on Classics? Huge improvement, IMO. (If you're bothered about the condition of 10+ year old figures [which go for silly prices these days] and having to patch them up I don't recommend doing this though. The glow in the dark plastic on him is very poor and brittle, pieces of the neck came off and I had to superglue them back on).

Is Scare-Glow the only figure that came with that green polearm back in the 80s, or did the line reuse accessories like that? I definitely have the 80s version of that weapon in a box somewhere, but I don't think I've ever even seen this dude before the last year or so. I defintely didn't own one.

That looks great, BTW. I can see why people would be tempted to redo the face, because it's so silly. But everything about He-Man is silly and that's why the line is so memorable.

It's a swords and sorcery and tech fantasy setting with cowboys, ninjas, speed demons, lots of animal people, a robot elephant firefighter who's a water pistol, etc. It was literally made up year by year and any depth to the stories was usually because a decent writer was jobbing for a change. Pretty much anything could be thrown in, and that's a lot of the appeal. For the time it was different to most of what else was on offer.

The normal Classics head is smaller and oddly lined; http://www.oafe.net/poe/motucglow.php -- and the dodgy nature of the GITD plastic isn't new, originals with arms broken off at the shoulder are common. That's partly why I've bought a few of the Origins one.

There were at least three uses of the 80s halberd, off the top of my head. It was used early on in the Castle Grayskull weapons rack; https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/ ... -132642588

Scare Glow is from a late wave of figures that had minimal new tooling. Apart from the GITD novelty it's a Skeletor body plus new head plus cloth cape. The weapon got issued in green with SG for the US area, and in GITD plastic for UK/Europe.

The weapons rack tooling also saw the spear got reused for Randor in the same late wave of figures. Presumably it was common practice to alter moulds and block off sections to only inject plastic into part of them.

The line reused most weapons, and the main torso, arm/leg/boot variations all saw heavy use. When it was at its height there was a lot of additional unique tooling for eg the Snake-Men and Horde characters, and although some figures seem similar moulds got recreated at various points. Torsos on some characters are thicker/thinner, so the armour isn't entirely interchangeable, and at some point the evil/Skeletor legs and boots combo got more duck-like.

I won't be too surprised if Origins either skips those mid-era character that need more tooling, if they're deluxe price point, or if the price point for the entire line shifts.

Reactivated Lobo (2005) minus accs. Someone's proper review midway down http://www.oafe.net/yo/dcdlobo.php -- need to find him slightly more appropriate weapons, but looks better in hand than in most photos. They didn't seem to show up at reasonable prices for ages but possibly the other figures released in the intervening years have had people 'upgrading'.

Savage He-Man plus a Rebor Smilodon. The latter takes me back to reference books and (if memory serves) postcards our big local library had when I was a kid.

Got a McFarlane animated John Stewart Green Lantern for the head for something else, so I thought I'd make a generic GL with some touch ups and a Flipshot/Icarus unmasked head. I'm thinking a mainstream DC universe John Cumberland, incorporating the preferred weaponry styling of the second Engineer. And also because the body shape on this thing looks like someone's squeezed the lower half of a sausage in their fist.
