Shuttlebay, War Academy

Sky Lynx lowered his ramp. The shuttle was undamaged from the short pepperings by Skywarp as he'd sped away. Nothing could penetrate his armor.

"Welcome to Iacon, home of the Autobot bastion, led by the venerable Zeta Prime," he said to Wheeljack and Highbrow, "Once you've been looked over by medical, Sentinel requests your presence in the War Room for debriefing. I'd escort you myself, but for my incredible size."

When Ratchet arrived, he informed the doctor of the wounded, "Several, I'm afraid. That multi-changing horror did quite a number on them. Were it not for Magnus' selflessness and my superior speed, the situation might have been an entirely different story."

The beast greatly considered the odds of Magnus's survival against the powerful multi-changer. He remembered how he, unbridled and inexperienced, made his ascent into the world, his panicked, meager foes fleeing at the sight of his wild, feral power.

It had happened again in Cybertron's history.

"Magnus was managing to hold the multi-changer at bay when I launched. It's an unknown quantity, like myself. Even I can't guess odds on Magnus's chances against it. There's no precedent," he hesitated, "I...don't have an answer for you, Sentinel. Magnus is one of our best, and that stands in his favor."

Wheeljack got up and walked towards the exit. "Thanks for the rescue, Sky Lynx," he said while walking down the ramp. "Don't think I need any medical attention. Suprisingly enough, all I suffer from are a few dents that I can easily fix myself."

Wheeljack stood in the Shuttlebay on a platform and looked around. It's been a long while since he has been in Iacon. He left because the rules restricted his creative thinking too much. Didn't matter if his inventions were to help the Autobots or not. He just wasn't allowed to do what he wanted to do. Create.

"So. Where to now?" he inquired.

Jazz followed shortly after Wheeljack and stood on the ramp. "Sentinel requested your and Highbrow's presence in the War Room," he replied. "I'm going to stay here with Switch for the moment and get myself patched up too by Ratchet. Rather have my arm attached to my frame instead of in my hand," he added with a smile.

Jazz looked over his shoulder. "Topspin. Can you escort these two to the War Room?"

"Looks like something big broke out of it," Volks said as he looked closer to the screen. "Probably the guy that Magnus is fighting right now."

Volks then concentrated on his other screens where he was monitoring Zeta Prime's shuttle. "Prime's shuttle has almost reached destination coordinates, chief."

"I see." Sentinel replied to Sky Lynx. "Magnus is on his own then. Our best wishes are with him." To even spook that ego-bird... this sixchanger must be very powerful indeed. "As for you, lieutenant commander... good job. Rest and refuel, but keep ready. We may move into the offensive soon enough."

If Zeta Prime's idiocy didn't kill all aboard the shuttle, they'll need Sky Lynx to evacuate them.

Stupid, old Primes... Zeta is a good Prime, but sometimes he's just an idiot.

Sentinel looked at Volks, and nodded. "Keep up the work." Sentinel said. Turning to Network, Sentinel said, "Enhance the picture of the sixchanger."

"M- me?"

"Yes, you. This kid Volks is doing all the hard work, surely you can do a simple thing like enhancing and scanning?" Sentinel snapped.

"Yes. Right away, sir."

"You're really going to leave Magnus there?!" The words escaped Volks' vocal processors before he could even realize that he just spoke out of order against a superior officer. Though that didn't stop him in the past either, so the thought of that escaped him quickly. "You have to get him out of there!"

Sentinel looked at Volks with a surprised expression. He did not think that Volks would show any concern for anyone but himself, let alone Magnus.

"He knew the risks." Sentinel told Volks. "Magnus is a good soldier, one of our best, and he had sacrificed himself in order to allow the others to escape. Do you think I like leaving my best soldier behind? Do you think I want to?" Sentinel asked, his agitation showing very clearly. "Do you think I have a choice? Magnus made that choice for me. If I send Sky Lynx there to pick Magnus up, and should they fail, I will lose two of my best soldiers! It's a hard decision, but it must be made."

Sentinel stopped, calmed himself slightly, and said in a cold tone. "It's war, kid. I'm sorry you have to be introduced to it like this, but this is what war feels like." Sentinel paused. "If he survives, he will be able to contact us. And then we will rescue him. Until then, keep your cameras peeled at the battlefield."

"As always," Sky Lynx answered Sentinel with assured calm, "Notify me at once if the situation changes, and be sure to keep me abreast of the multi-changer. For the good of us all, I must know what we're dealing with. I'll be on standby. Sky Lynx out."

The last was spoken curtly. It hadn't been Sentinel putting himself in the path of a great and dangerous unknown. No, he had remained safely at the War Academy, sending others to do what he would not, and the Kaon base, razed to the ground, the dead there. Sentinel's responsibility. And his. As well as allowing Zeta Prime's safety to be put at risk in that very city the monster was. Unthinkable.

"All right everyone, your gracious host must be going," Sky Lynx said. Once he was sure Ratchet had their injured, he launched and flew away.

War Academy, Sky Lynx's Aerie

The draconic head and tail slid out and limbs unfolded as he transformed, spreading his wings. He backwinged and landed at the large aerie constructed for his own use. He'd insisted that it be tall, so that he stood sentinel above all Iacon, its eternal guardian.

He entered the large enclosure and laid down, hooked himself up to the customized recharge station and curled his head and tail around his body, wings folded. His optical band dimmed. There, the draconic retired to troubling 'dreams.'

Highbrow looked over at Wheeljack, "I am not damaged significantly either. I believe our opponent was testing himself, and toying with us, before he inflicted serious harm. The situation would have been different though, had our rescuers not arrived."

-------------------

"Yeah, I've got them Jazz. Go get fixed up." Topspin said in reply to Jazz. "We may have need of your skills sooner rather than later."

Turning to Wheeljack and Highbrow, Topspin sized them up, hoping the information they had was worth Magnus's sacrifice. "Good to know we got there in time then. Have you two ever been in Autobase before? Follow me and I'll take you to the war room for debriefing." He said, turning around and leading the others, not waiting for a reply.

Red Alert shrugged.

"That's why you're here," he told Hound. "I don't expect you to be able to train him into a proficient scout overnight. Just think of him as another tool in your kit, like a magno-scanner or a radar dish. He's already seeing what we need to see, but just like any type of sensor, what he's seeing will only make sense to someone who's been trained to interpret it. That's where you come in."

As he was talking he led Hound back toward the interview room where Raiku was waiting. He unlocked the door with his ID badge and gestured for the Autobot to join him inside.

"Now, I think it's high time that you met our friend Raiku."

Sentinel did not bother to reply to Sky Lynx. He was a useful soldier, but is a wee bit too pompous for Sentinel's likes. Still, Sentinel supposed, like him, Sky Lynx is just sure of his power.

Sentinel snorted. If they weren't in the chain of command, Sentinel felt that he might take a liking to Sky Lynx. As it is, though...

Sentinel sighed. Cog still hadn't replied, which wasn't a surprise... the secret location for Project M was a demanding one. With Magnus still in Kaon, their only crisis was the Zeta Prime one, and Prowl's interrogation of that organic vermin.

Sentinel frowned, resting a finger over his mouth as he mulled things over, going through the information that Volks had researched about the Decepticons. Prowl's research about techno-organic experimentation as well as Governor Megatron had also been beamed onto the mini-computer built into his wrist. Megatron was bad enough. A small army of gladiators, seemingly more competent than any rebellion that Sentinel had faced before... With a weapon of mass destruction... technorganic monkeys... and now that Obsidian is among the enemy... a Vector computer captured by the enemy...

And Zeta Prime going off to meet Megatron alone.... stupid, stupid, stupid!

There was probably only one person that Sentinel was sure could see and hear everything. Sentinel was sure Prowl would agree with him as well. He tapped Volks on the shoulder. "Inform me of any developments. Watch Wheeljack's laboratory and the temple. I need... some time."

Moving away from Terabolt, it looked like Sentinel needed some time alone after the fight. He entered the recharge chamber, which slid closed. Pipes attached themselves to Sentinel's arms and chest... but he did not go into stasis sleep.

Instead, he knew that the recharge chamber was completely isolated, no sound could get out, and there was no way for the soldiers outside (or more importantly, the Temple Knight outside) could see or hear what Sentinel was doing.

He opened a commlink. "Soundwave, this is Sentinel of the Autobot army. Respond."

Switch was placed on a stretcher. The surroundings kept fading in and out, growing fainter reach time as stasis lock began to set in.

Those hollow optics were so empty, lifeless, yet so full of hunger. The dichotomy haunted him and the memory of those optics would not leave him.

He struggled against the stasis and the emptiness, not to succumb. The pain was enough to remind him he existed. And the Autobot Code.

Didn't..... Sky Lynx..... write....... parts of......?

He barely winced as another pop of electricity occurred.

The multi-changer's optics. So terrible.

Ratchet rigated the Nectro connecters in Jazz's arm before putting it back into the socket. "There, all done. Don't reccomend you move it much for a while though, it may sting" he said before turning to broken mess that was Switch on the stretcher. "By Primus, this may reqire a bit more work.." He fineshed while scrachting his chin.

A burst of static shot out of the speaker nearest to Sentinel. Then there was silence for several seconds, until a deeply-flanged, obviously synthetic voice followed it.

"Speak," was all Soundwave said.

"Soundwave. The military requires your help to monitor a group of murderous rebels in Kaon." Sentinel told Soundwave, getting straight to the point. Soundwave, was, after all, just a barely sentient Transformer whose job is to handle communications. Surely he would jump at the chance to do something more useful.

Again, there was silence for several seconds before Soundwave answered. The silences could have been down to lightspeed delays. After all, no one knew exactly where in the solar system Soundwave actually was at any given time. But it was just as likely that Soundwave had flagged Sentinel's queries -- or maybe Sentinel himself -- as a low priority and relegated them to be dealt with only after things that were truly important.

"I'm afraid that is beyond my operational purview," he said at last. "So I must ask: why?"

How dare this little computer-

Sentinel forced himself to calm down. "Because the Kaonites have initiated a revolution against the government. The military require your assistance. You are created by the Senate, and you should help us."

"You sound as though you want me to come along on this job, but I'm afraid I've only been alloted a limited amount of time for this visit," Hound would tell Red Alert with a brief shake of his head. "We've got trouble cropping up, and I'm afraid it takes presedence over civillian afairs, or that's how upper command sees it anyways. I'll do what I can, but after this you'll be on your own."

Hound proceeded inside the room, giving a smile to the mech inside and offering a handshake, which Raiku accepted as he stood up. "Name's Hound, millitary scout. How're you doing?" He asked politely.

"Been better," Raiku answered dismally.

War Room, War Academy

Terabolt would continue to mill about the room, not seeming to be doing anything in particular. She was most likely just continuing to monitor thing in general, or waiting for orders from her fellow Temple Knight.

"It's unbelievable that we made it out alive," Wheeljack said to Highbrow. "It's a good thing my emergency came through. Didn't think it would make it all the way to Iacon."

Wheeljack then turned to Topspin. "I've been here before, but it's been way too long," Wheeljack replied. "Did some mechanic work here and there on this base when they needed it, but nothing too special. For doing something special, I had to move to Kaon."

Wheeljck rolled his optics. "Now I'm back in Iacon, safe, but restricted by its laws and such. So, are we going to meet The Prime?"

Soundwave's answer took several more milliseconds to come this time, if you were counting.

"I have been...listening, already. I will continue. Their security protocols are amateurish at best. Easily broken. But my programming lets me report only to the Senate or to the Prime himself." He paused for a moment before impassively reminding Sentinel, "You are neither. Unless you have formal orders, I am physically incapable of divulging any data to you."

"I don't like it, but I understand." Red Alert shook his head. "I'm not sure your commanders understand the gravity of the situation. In fact, I'm certain they don't," he told Hound, "because I couldn't tell them. Whoever is doing this, they can hack secured networks with ease -- including the networks of government contractors using the most up-to-date Internal Security firewalls. If they haven't compromised Autobase security yet, you can bet that they will soon. I could hardly say that in my request, since I had to assume that my killer would be able to read it. But you should pass that along to them. In person, of course."

Highbrow looked over at Wheeljack. "I estimate an almost infintesimal chance of us making it back without some minor miracle occuring. As it is, we lost Magnus." He finished, his expression growing somber as he did.

----------

Topspin ignored the comments made my Highbrow, still sore about leaving a fellow Autobot behind. "I'm not sure who all will be at the debrief." Topspin replied back to Wheeljack as they walked through the halls towards the War Room. "If he's available, I'm sure he'll want to sit in on it."

(OOC: Sky Lynx should be at the debriefing....somehow. :) )

The Aerie

Sky Lynx stirred. He lifted his head and rose to his feet. The pumps disengaged automatically. His self-diagnostics indicated his energy level was 73%. It would do, for the moment.

He opened an encrypted channel; his face appeared on a view-screen in the War Room, "Sky Lynx reporting for the mission debriefing," he said haughtily. Of course.
