[G1 RPG] Terminus: The King is Dead (Polyhex)

Post by Warcry »

In spite of the revelation that the Megatron in their midst was an impostor, Astrotrain and Soundwave opted to utilize the facsimile's rallying power. Thus, for the greater good of the Decepticons, still fractured following the civil war, a deal was struck with Gigatron.

Hopes of uniting the splintered Decepticons would be quashed, however, when a staged Imperial outbreak in Darkmount designed to avert Megatron's attention proved only that he was more determined to crush Gigatron beyond all exception.

When it was finally decided that the imposter was to be eliminated, a revived Starscream, who had garnered his own supporters, was turned on Megatron.

However, while searching for an algorithm to decrypt Imperial messages, Shrapnel and Kickback stumbled upon records of Astrotrain's meetings with Gigatron and brought this knowledge to the Decepticon leader's attention, leading to the Admiral's assassination.

A battle ensued, resulting in numerous casualties, but the clone was ultimately taken down by Starscream, who promptly took his place at the throne...

Imposter or not, Darkmount is now in turmoil over Megatron's death, with many troops already wondering how (or why) Starscream was alive once more.

Megatron — nay, the impostor Megatron — was dead. Shrapnel's antennae twitched as he detected the last sparks of activity die out from the bogus Megatron.

Well, that's new. I thought their plan hinged on killing Megatron and returning us under Gigatron's rule... Shrapnel thought as he heard the proclamation.

"All hail Starscream[/I]!" Shrapnel proclaimed loudly as he transformed, raising his right hand up in the traditional Sweep greeting for Galvatron.

Bombshell looked at the others, shrugged, and did likewise. It was, he decided, certainly not the best course of option to go against Soundwave and Starscream...

Blackjack likewise thought the same. The odds are not in favour of defiance. Besides, now is not the time for division.

Bonecrusher transformed, and when he saw Scrapper and Scavenger, he shrugged and saluted. "Just don't bring out the trumpets this time." He murmured.

Astrotrains Office

Slicer levered himself upwards as the Beast transformed into an exo suit.

Slicer had recovered and never being the most subtle of mechs and perhaps still being a little dazed or feeling safe within the confines of the Beast spoke up.

"What has Starscream ever done for us??? We need a strong competent leader at this time to help combat the Imperial attack. What has Starscream proved that he can put a wounded mech out of his misery I think we need to reunite with our fellow Decepticons to help fight the Imperials. Only one mech has always had a clear vision of what needs doing and of their true threat and we threw him aside to follow this false Megatron because of his obsession. Only for his obsession to be proved to be perfectly Justifiable. It was only by working together that we defeated Megatron. I think we need to work together again to defeat these Imperial. I say all Hail Gigatron."

He started clapping his hands together,

"Gigatron, Gigatron, Gigatron."

Ah, the sound of acclamation, Starscream thought, grinned that lop-sided grin.

Hook, after a long stretch of astroseconds, lifted his voice: "Hail, Starscream!" Then, simply, he moved towards the greyed-out wreckage and, dropping to one knee, began a scan with one of his inbuilt monitors. Deliberately, he avoided looking directly at the twisted face; he did not want to see this as Megatron in any way or he would start thinking too deeply about the Constructicon's own come back...

Starscream was about to acknowledge his new troops when Slicer rose up and became a target against which to test them.

"There is only one true Decepticon leader," he hissed. "Starscream! Anything else is treason!"

Clench stood up, dismayed at hot much damage the clone had taken before being put down. "Hail Starscream!" He croaked.

Thrust would've clapped in joy if he could, but he was still missing an arm. "Seeker in charge? Slag yeah! Hail Starscream!"

Slicer nodded.

"fair enough , good point so Lord Starscream what are your plans for defeating Thunderwing or even Gigatron. I mean I'm an Massive assault specialist so I've seen my fair share of charging blindly into the enemies guns and hoping for the best but even I appreciate a bit of strategy , some tactics, not just having my life sacrificed on a whim while my leaders quaff vintage energon behind the lines.

So Lord Starscream I'm happy to follow you as long as you're happy to lead from the front. Even now I imagine you're thinking about ordering your new followers to shoot me as a test of loyalty. Getting others to do your dirty work already!!

Of course you'll just deny it and challenge me to some kind of duel but is that really the best use of a leaders time when there's a good chance that we could be wiped off the planet by a rock dropped on us by an enemy force that already holds the high orbitals at any second. Starscream we need a great leader , a states mech , a hero that can put aside petty diffences and mould his mechs into a cohesive fighting force and lead them to a magnificent victory. Starscream are you that leader??"

"We don't have time for this," Soundwave said grimly when Slicer mouthed off. "Insecticons, seize him!"

"With pleasure," Kickback said with a smile. Bringing his machine gun up to cover Slicer, he gestured with his antennae. "On your knees, traitor! Bow before Lord Starscream!"

I can't believe I just said that... the Insecticon thought to himself. I feel dirty.

Ramjet leaned up against the wall, idly tossing something -- a part of Megatron, no doubt -- up in the air and catching it, again and again.

"Wait, wait. Hold the shooting for a sec, guys! He, uh, does have a good point. Screamy-poo, whatcha want us to do about Giggy, anyways? And the Imps. And, er...you know, everything? I mean, good on ya being boss and all, go Team Seeker and all that. But you've got a plan for what comes next, right?"

Darkmount, Astrotrain's Office

How exactly do you cover up the fact that you don't know what everyone's talking about?

Starscream's smile, as he contemplated Soundwave's intervention and Kickback's willingness to pull down Slicer, became brittle. All he knew was:

1. Pulling his terminally damaged original exoform through underground conduits and tunnels until he found the remains (er... well, they quickly were) of Apeface, which he used to reconstruct himself.
2. Almost managing to make use of other disaffected mechs, but falling foul to a ridiculous attack - and 'dying'.
3. Being bored and roaming Darkmount's environs, including saving Rumble from an attack by a few so-called Imperials. That followed by possessing the Cassettecon and embarassing him. Just because.
4. Getting pulled to medbay and, after being involved in some esoteric stuff, finding himself inside a new exoform, courtesy, it seemed, of Hook. Probably, also, just because.
5. And, to cut to the chase, killing Megatron, or a facsimile thereof, resulting in now...

All that inside Darkmount, give or take a short excusion into one of the courtyards.

What the Pit was happening outside?

"Remove that traitor to a holding cell!" he snapped, indicating Slicer with a flick of a wrist. "Then you, Soundwave, will brief me with all details of Gigatron's present activities and provide me with tactical updates."

How exactly do you cover up the fact that you don't know what everyone's talking about?

Like that...
~~~
Hook was not listening to any of the interplay; engaged in his investigations of the remains of the Megatron clone, it was all a background buzz. Only the strange readings on his scanners mattered. He should be offering his aid to the wounded, but he could simply not help being professionally curious about the processes the Quintessons had employed in creating their foil.
That the dull exoform was giving off a constant low-level of residual Spark energy concerned him greatly.
Because it was impossible.
And that is exactly why one does not mouth off at another Decepticon's coronation... Blackjack mused as he scampered to one corner to avoid being stepped on by the Insecticons. That's what separates the lowlife thugs, the slightly-smarter-if-without-common-sense thugs, and the real plotters and intellectuals.
Blackjack did not really care if the Decepticons' worst and most notorious traitor were now leading them -- Starscream is one of those types that take charge quickly and effectively, despite his blundering, and is the figurehead that they need in this times.
Bombshell and Shrapnel looked at Soundwave, at each other, and then at Slicer. Shrapnel shrugged, he didn't much like anyone else. Plus, security is his job.
Palms crackling with electricity, he approached Slicer, and flicked out a pair of energon cuffs. "Don't make this hard on yourself, yourself."
Bombshell, however, could care less about intimidating. "At once, Screaming One!" He shouted with as much enthusiasm as he could muster, then aiming his horn at Slicer and launching a cerebro-shell. "You will serve!"
Bonecrusher chuckled, and cracked his fists in case Slicer got away from the bugs. He and Slicer might've fought against Megatron, but traitors are traitors.
He then noticed the troubled expression on Hook's face, and scowled. He knew Hook long enough to know that it usually meant trouble... "What's up? I know that look... it's the look that says 'something ain't right'."
Slicer grinned.
"You do know why they call it massive assault?"
The Cerebo shell pinged off his exo suit.
"back off bug otherwise I will serve you your head on a platter."
He marched towards the door
"I am not a traitor I serve the Decepticon cause. I will place myself under house arrest I will be in my quarters for when you need me to fight the Imperial menance. Shrapnel you better accompany me."
Starscream seethed and gritted his dental arches in the parody of a continued smile, aware that he had to hold himself aloof even in the face of Slicer's damn behaviour (and a flounce he, himself, would have been proud of). He would love to shoot the other mech, of course, but he was prudent enough not to terminally remove a possible source for cross-referencing any information Soundwave supplied - not yet.
With cool, professional detachment, Hook only glanced up as Slicer left, otherwise he maintained his interest in the scanner readings; he did not look at his brother as he replied softly, "That all depends on one's perception of 'right', Bonecrusher. And that in no way infers something is wrong..."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corridor
Aware of his vulnerability, that he should not be there, Relay nevertheless stayed, because he could not turn and run without possibly inciting a negative response from the mechs beginning to cluster in the corridor around him. Odd stares he had become used to at Darkmount - his design marking him as a non-battle or construction operative - but he really felt his personal safety was at risk. He had to contact Soundwave...
Then vocals were raised in various cries of: "Hail, Starscream!" and the growing press of warriors prevented any escape. Soon there was a muttering, interspersed with low laughter, a few whispers about a change of leadership.
He feared he would be crushed, until he was seized by an invisible giant hand and lifted bodily clear of the (surprised) press.
"Ah, the reporter," Downdraft boomed. "Now we shall learn what is going on!"
Shrapnel gave Bombshell a questioning glance, and the psychologist expert merely shrugged, as if nothing had happened.
Shrapnel then glanced at Kickback, and then at Starscream. The old Shrapnel would shoot Slicer down then and there, but what would someone like Kickback who could keep his cool do? "I will place you at house arrest only if our leader agrees, Slicer, Slicer."
Slicer's defiance could cause another split in their forces if they weren't careful, but Soundwave knew better than to simply kill him. It wasn't that he disapproved of that option -- not at all -- but if it had to be done Starscream needed to be the one to do it. After all, he was the one who needed to prove himself to the troops, and he had a narrow window in which to do it.
Instead, he turned to the Constructicons. "Hook, Hightower and Scrapper, tend to the wounded. Treat this as a reverse-triage situation -- we need as many troops on their feet as possible in as little time as you can manage. The rest of you, clean up the corpses and haul the seriously-wounded into stasis pods."
He looked down at the ruin that was the Megatron clone's carcass.
"And someone get that out of my sight."
"Just give the order..." he said to no one in particular.
Darkmount, (the late) Astrotrain's Office
Ah, yes - Soundwave taking charge...
Starscream let him. Why not? There were other fish to fry. Or not. Just in case.
"Remove him [i.e. Slicer] and place him under arrest in the main cell block. Kickback, Shrapnel - you deal with it."
He casually kicked the Megatron clone's remains, which made Hook wince, and strode for the door.
"Soundwave, I shall be in the Command Suite - meet me there within the breem."
~~~

For his part, Hook grabbed a few last readings and, exchanging a quick glance with Bonecrusher, said: "I shall summon drones to remove this mechanism to the main medbay. Something of Quintesson manufacture is worth investigation for future reference. After all..." he smiled, coldly. "We have been fooled before."

"You heard the boss," Kickback told Slicer. "You're either going to come with us to the brig to go with Hook to the morgue."

Soundwave nodded curtly as Starscream took his leave.

"Of course, Commander. I'll be there as soon as I've finished organizing the troops."

Then he turned a mild glower in Hook's direction. "Kindly stop speaking in riddles and tend to your duties, doctor."

Scrapper glanced around at all the damaged Decepticons, then picked Thrust at random and started inspecting his injuries. "Aside from the obvious, what's wrong with you?"

Vindicator pulled himself out from under a pile of rubble. During the course of the battle he had been hit numerous times in the back by poorly aimed shots from Starscream’s null rays and was disabled for some time. As he stood up he looked down at the clones shattered remains surprised at how much punishment it had taken before dying.

He looked up from the clone’s wreckage and over at Starscream; having never liked the seeker to begin with he couldn’t say he was all too pleased that he was their new commander. But at this point he knew it was something he would have to deal with.

He headed over in Soundwave’s direction.

“Am I to assume now that I am no longer commander of the ground forces?” he asked the communications officer. “It was given to me by an imposter after all.”

Soundwave took his time to turn and face Vindicator, almost as if he wanted to give the other Decepticon a chance to rethink his question.

"Do you suppose," he asked in return, "that there's some reason why you shouldn't command our ground troops? Do you think yourself an incompetent, or that the imposter chose you for some reason other than merit? If you would care to suggest a candidate better than yourself I'm sure Commander Starscream would be all ears. If not...if not, I would recommend you show some self-confidence, do your job to the best of your ability and prove your worth to anyone foolish enough to question your pedigree."

Hook's faceplate, behind Soundwave's back, showed more than a little anger. The medic did not ever appreciate being bustled about or reminded of his duties.

"Bonecrusher, brother," he said, vocals soft in direct contrast with his expression. "If I might impose..?" He gestured to the wreckage at his feet. "I must attend to the functional damaged first."

~~~
At the doorway, Starscream paused and surveyed the crowd of Decepticon mechs - his Decepticons, now.
The mechs, in turn, gave him the optic in silence, possibly trying to work out what had gone on and/or who he was. After a long, long astrosecond, someone muttered: "That's Starscream..."
That was followed by various questions and comments: "Where's Lord Megatron?" - "I didn't think he was that big." - "I can see Soundwave in there." - "What's going on?" - "Who's in charge?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corridor
Azimuth, Zenith and Downdraft stood at the very back of the crowd with Relay, who seemed very slight in comparison to the ancient Triple Changers.
"I have no idea," the reporter said. "I have no idea! Before I could get to the room, all these others arrived."
Azimuth shook his heavy head. "If we want to know anything," he said to the other two. "We find it out ourselves, yes?"
"Yes," agreed Downdraft.
Relay looked from the wall of metal in front of him to the masses of metal behind him and realised he had best get out of the way.
“Do not think that I asked you that question out of some lack of self confidence. With Starscream in charge now things are going to change, I wanted to be sure that my job wouldn’t.” He replied to Soundwave, annoyed by the communications officers answer.
He shifted his gazed over to the door where Starscream was now standing in front a large group of Decepticons.
“I should hope Starscream is quick in establishing his command over the troops. I can only imagine that there will be some fools who won’t be happy with our new leader and will cause problems.” He said to Soundwave.
Shrapnel shrugged at Slicer. "Them's the breaks, breaks." Turning to Starscream, "As you wish, leader, leader."
Shrapnel prodded Slicer with his grenade launcher. "Come on. You go voluntarily and maybe you'll be called into action when we go against the Imperials, Imperials. You don't, and we send you to accompany fake Megatron in the Pit, Pit."
_________________________
Bonecrusher tch-ed when Soundwave told Hook to tend to his duties, but didn't make a big deal out of it. No need to piss the higher-ups off, after all. Bonecrusher wasn't keen on proving 'Constructicons superior, Soundwave inferior', after all.
"Yeah, sure, Hook. Duty comes first." Bonecrusher said as he toed the rubble towards a corner -- he couldn't stand such imperfection -- and shrugged.
"Eek, this one is dead. Poor sod. And he just returned to life too..." Bonecrusher said, prodding Laserbeak's prone body, impaled onto the ceiling, still dripping energon as he slowly turned gray. "Sad end."
Corridors
Fumarole, Zephyr and Heatstroke walked behind Starscream, glaring at whomever looked at the newly-crowned leader funny.
________________________
"Starscream is in charge now!" Blackjack shuoted out from below to the confused Decepticon troops who were milling around, since no one was interested in informing the masses... the same masses that would be led by Starscream. "Megatron is a fake and he's dead!"
Striding out into the corridors, he spotted several similar large, old-fashioned triple changers. "Downdraft?" The Micromaster transformed into vehicle mode, zipped across the corridor, transformed back and tapped Downdraft's leg. "Yo, big guys!"
