Simon Furman on Regeneration #100 / James Roberts interview with Bleeding Cool

Post by Neuronutter » Fri Feb 14, 2014 8:39 pm

Comicbookresources have posted an interview with Simon Furman confirming that Regeneration is ending with the 100th issue.

Is anyone surprised given the sales numbers?

EDIT: Also, legendary run? The whole thing, maybe, but he's only added a handful of new issues to the run, really.

I'm fairly certain this started off with the purpose to end at 100 regardless of sales. It was said from day 1 I believe.
Few stuff in the UK to trade/sell. Measly sales thread.

I didn't know that. I didn't read the article, just the intro, not really being interested in Regeneration.

If anything, the fact that they gave Furman an extra issue on top of those already planned seems to indicate they were relatively pleased with the sales - AIUI issue #0 was a late addition.

Regeneration's at least 3 times better if you've read the marvel G1 US run.

But it's still nowhere near RID or MTMTE level.

Still, the highest point for this series was issues 83 to 85 or something. Which was over a year ago ;)

Once the initial "Furman you've raped my childhood" emotions began to subside, I chose to simply enjoy it for what it is: a delightfully silly bunch of old tosh. When Jhiaxus cracked that joke about the Hub Network, I literally laughed out loud. I'm still not sure if the whole book's just amazingly inept or a deliberately subversive in-joke but either way it's one hell of a ride.

That's a nice, genuine interview that isn't guilty of overhyping and helps to endear the writer's work to people who might not be following the series in lockstep.

And it did remind me that I used to get a lot more done when I wrote everything in longhand.
