If they do go with cab-bot, I don't think the trailer will form armor like Kingdom, the cab-bot would be too small. Instead, the cab will fold into a little box that slots into the big-bot's torso, like Motormaster into Menasor. The hollowness of the trailer will cause the big-bot to be less big than Menasor.

Edit: Maybe the possibility of a Delta Magnus repaint will make Hasbro more likely to spring for the cab-bot. It's easier to justify the extra cost if it'll help sell the mold twice.
Probably not as nicely done as this, but in terms of overall design (box that slots into the torso) a less IDW look and doing this is within the engineering parameters;

They could even do what PE have done and carry over the inner robot to another PM Prime, although I suspect they wouldn't use the same smoke stacks configuration or would make them movable with some 5mm ports or similar.

I don't think any of us had "the cab transforms...into a compact red backpack" on our bingo cards. I was expecting either a fully transforming cab or a big chunk of kibble. That and the legs both seem like an improvement over the clunky MP, but the overall package is a bit basic for a Commander-class toy. Still very curious to see how big it is in robot mode.

Also, are my eyes deceiving me or is it decoed in the toy/Marvel shade of blue instead of the cartoon's dark blue? That's my preferred deco but it would be odd as hell for an SS86 toy.

Brighter colours test better with all of the kids who'll be getting Commander class figures, presumably.

The matrix looks slightly ridiculous, a minor point except that SS branding and the price point have to work harder. Other than that, it's definitely in the same style and complexity as the Kingdom Rodimus, which isn't a compliment but might go some way towards leaving people not feeling too ripped off?
