Various bits about the Movie novels

Post by Denyer »

Prequel: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redir ... 345497988/

Written with both the treatments from the movie and the prequel comics in mind (there's a bit on this in the back of recent IDW comics, talking about communications between writers.)

Original plot by David Cian (did the latter two Dreamwave tie-in novels, trying to undo Scot Ciencin's work in the first) but the writing handed to Alan Dean Foster...

More on that here:

Apparently A. D. Foster has written Star Wars fiction that's liked.

Then there's a movie adaptation from the same guy coming out later:

ADF is the kind of movie tie ins (he also did the first three Alien film novelisations, and -despte being credited to Gene Rodenberry and George Lucas respectively- the ones for the first Star Wars and Star Trek movies). He usually puts more effort in that the "He said she said" Terrance Dicks style, so it should be good.

Actually, Foster did not write the TMP novelization. That was, in fact, Gene Roddenberry himself. Foster did write a number of Trek novels, however, and the insistant rumor that Foster wrote the TMP novelization is born of a conflation of that and his ghost writing for George Lucas.

Any actual confirmation from the man himself though? Even disrigarding various factual books claiming it was him it certainly reads like a ADF book. Though I wouldn't be suprised if Roddenberry wrote the infamous "Kirk and Spock are not gay so stop writing those short stories you wierdo women" introduction.

Though now I think of it, that big book guide to the books probably sheds more light on this...
