O, Canada...
O, Canada...
I'm calling you out, Canada. You think you’re so great. "Ooo, look at us! We got the animated toys before you. We’ve got Classics 2.0 and you still don’t! We get to watch new episodes of animated a week before you. We invented IMAX! We have great monosyllabically named bands like Rush, Moist, and Thor! We gave you both Kirk and Scotty. We’re the best, eh?"
But it’s not all roses and maple syrup, is it? Need I remind you that it was you who unleashed upon the world Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette, and Bachman-Turner Overdrive? It was you who brought about both Eugene Levy and butter substitute. Howie Mandel, Pamela Anderson, and Shania Twain all hail from within your massive borders. Your bi-lingual everything, your Newfoundland time zone… Not so proud now, are we?
And yet, for the following things, I must indeed thank you:
Leonard Cohen
Corner Gas
The Stanley Cup
Skinny Puppy (particularly Ogre)
NoMeansNo
Kids in the Hall
Alex Trebek
You are a fickle mistress, o neighbor to the north. Who can know you, for you are like the wind? Will your next export be atrocity or excellence? What shall become of thee, o Canada?

Yeah, imagine the feeling of overwhelming inferiority you'd have to live with if that were the case... Poor Dalek.inflatable dalek wrote:At least you don't have the Welsh next to you.

Ooh... am I the first Canadian to reply to this? Awesome! Wait... do I have anything to contribute to the thread? No.... sadly...

Oh I got something... we also brought you the likes of Jim Carrey, Mike Myers and John Candy. The next great Canadian comedian will be Russel Peters... do people in the States know about him? Or is he just popular here?

First rule of nitpicking is, perhaps unsurprisingly, to get your own facts right.

Not sure if you're defending your country's honor there or playing Benedict Arnold. Jim Carrey just about made my "Evil Exports of Canada" (EEoC) list up top. Meyers and Candy, however, both almost made my "Good Things from Canada" (GTfC). So, in my eyes (which is what matters), your defense is slightly better than a push.Blitzwing wrote:Oh I got something... we also brought you the likes of Jim Carrey, Mike Myers and John Candy.
